Bay of Plenty residents are being targeted by a scam involving Tauranga's toll roads.
The New Zealand Transport Agency is warning the public about people who are door-stopping residents, trying to sign them up to bogus toll road accounts in exchange for their credit card information.
They're told they can set up an account if they hand over their details and pay a $3.90 administration fee.
Alarm bells were rung by a Tauranga woman who contacted the agency to complain.
NZTA spokeswoman Kaye Clark says the agency is urging anyone who's had a similar experience - or has handed over their information or money - to contact the police.
At this stage there's only been one report, and the woman didn't fall for it.
