Updated 9:24pm: The Parole Board says little has changed for Ewen Macdonald in the last year.

The decision from the board declining Macdonald parole has been released today.

The 34-year-old, who was acquitted of the murder of his brother in law Scott Guy, is serving a five year sentence for arson, vandalism and killing 19 calves with a hammer.

A report put before the board last year concluded he has a 'significant personality disturbance'.

The board says Macdonald hasn't yet addressed the personality factors which contribute to his risk.

But it says he's now taking part in a Release to Work scheme.

Macdonald will be considered for parole again in 12 months as part of the statutory cycle.
