A 29-year-old is facing a string of charges after allegedly taking a car by force, and refusing to stop for police.
Other drivers raised the alarm when they saw a car being driven dangerously on State Highway 7 in Canterbury, yesterday afternoon.
The driver led police on a chase for nearly half an hour and carried on with flat tyres after road spikes were laid out near Waipara.
Police say the man eventually got out waving a baseball bat but threatened a tourist driver and took off in his rental vehicle.
After another chase and another set of flat tyres, the man was eventually tasered and brought under control by a police dog.
He's due in court tomorrow.
The man will be appearing in court on Monday 1st January 2018 and is facing serious charges which include aggravated robbery, assault with a weapon and driving charges.
