The lawyer for one of the men charged with the murder of a North Otago farm worker has described how the case against her client is based on prejudice.

Closing arguments are being heard in the High Court at Dunedin in the trial of four men, charged with the murder of Justin McFarlane, in September last year.

Ann Stevens represents Rob Cummings, whose face is covered in a number of tattoos.

She recalled the evidence of one witness, who talked about their thoughts of Cummings.

"He said most people would be scared of Rob Cummings because of his tattoos.

"Remember, she has never met him."

Ann Stevens told the jury the Crowns portrayal of Cummings as the groups 'enforcer' falls well short of the mark.
