A Whakatane teenager has been arrested following a home invasion and sexual assault two days ago.

Police say a 20 year old woman was sexually assaulted in her McGarvie Road home on Tuesday afternoon.

A 17 year old man has been charged with assault with intent to rape, indecent assault and burglary.

He'll appear in the Whakatane District Court tomorrow.

Detective Senior Sergeant Greg Standen says the victim didn't know the alleged offender and is shaken by the attack.
