Holiday-goers are being urged to secure their properties against thieves and take care with alcohol over the holiday period.
Waitemata Police Inspector Bruce O’Brien said “thieves don’t take holidays”.
He said thieves are active at this time of the year, looking to steal Christmas gifts while families are on holiday.
“Please make sure your house is secure and your doors are locked, and that your neighbours are looking out for you – removing mail out of your mailbox.”
Police have also urged people to take care with alcohol.
“Please make sure if you are drinking you don’t drive, and if family members are drinking, look after them,” Inspector O’Brien said.
