Updated 12.35pm: A former detective sergeant is to stand trial on drug charges today.

Michael Blowers is to appear in the High Court in Whangarei accused of theft of controlled drugs, supplying methamphetamine and selling cannabis.

Over 40 witnesses are scheduled to give evidence.

Witnesses include multiple members of the New Zealand police and a woman to whom he allegedly supplied drugs.

The trial is expected to take two weeks.
