The convicted sex offender accused of going on the run after cutting off his electronic monitoring bracelet has appeared in court this morning.

Daniel Livingstone entered no plea in the Hutt Valley District Court to breaching the conditions of his release.

In a brief hearing, Livingstone refused a lawyer and represented himself.

Justice of the Peace Geoff Fox ordered Livingstone to stay in custody until his next court appearance on Tuesday, which will be via an AVL link from prison.

He allegedly went on the run from his Upper Hutt home in the early hours of Thursday.

Livingstone was found at the Naenae shops in Hutt Valley yesterday afternoon after police were called by a member of the public.

In 2006 he was jailed for eight years for abducting, raping and threatening to kill a 10-year-old girl.

He did not get parole and was released in 2014 when his sentence ended, but he was subject to an electronic supervision order requiring him to wear a GPS monitoring anklet.
