An online lothario who ripped off a woman for nearly a thousand dollars will be sentenced at District Court in Christchurch this afternoon.

Paul Abbott has previously served a two and a half year prison sentence in 2011 for scamming the women he was seeing, some of whom he met online, out of their money and possessions.

Earlier this year he began dating a Christchurch woman, who he also met online.

A couple of weeks into their relationship he asked to borrow some money.

However after she gave him the money he stopped returning her calls and texts.

After searching around on the internet the woman recognised Abbott from news articles about his previous offending and phoned police.
