UPDATED 5.02PM: Two men could face a jail term after being found guilty of trout poaching.

Thomas Tawha and David Leef have been found guilty of seven charges after a trial at the Rotorua District Court.

They were facing the charges after taking Rainbow Trout from a spawning stream near Lake Rotoiti.

The pair told the court they were taking fish for a tangi.

They'll be sentenced in January, with the maximum penalty for each charge being two years in prison.
