The Canterbury basketball community is in mourning and offering its support to the family of a two-year-old boy who died last night after being run over at a Christchurch stadium's carpark.
The boy was hit by a car in the carpark of Cowles Stadium in Aranui just after 4.30pm.
The Canterbury Basketball Association said all teams playing at the stadium today would be wearing black armbands as a sign of respect.
"We're very saddened about the terrible tragedy that occurred at Cowles Stadium earlier, and our condolences are with the family who have lost their child," it posted on its Facebook page.Â
The stadium is run by the Christchurch City Council with basketball, netball, volleyball and badminton courts for hire. It has an on-site carpark.
The boy's name has not been released.
