A young child has been attacked and injured by a dog in Christchurch.

Police and ambulance were called to Quinns Road, Shirley about 11 this morning, and the child was taken to hospital in a moderate condition.

The breed of dog is currently unknown. 

It's the city's third dog attack in less than 24 hours.

Last night, two rottweilers reportedly bit people in separate incidents in Hei Hei.

The dogs were eventually caught.
