A Christchurch manufacturing company has laid off 13 of its workers.
Scott Technology has confirmed the cuts, after informing its workers last week of the redundancies.
EPMU organisers Ross Heslop says the union asked the company to hold off while it awaited the outcome of several contracts.
However, that request was refused.
Mr Heslop says the cuts represent a loss of secure, highly-skilled jobs in the Christchurch region.
