North Canterbury locals are concerned a lack of crossings could see a child killed.
NZTA held a drop in session in Woodend last night to discuss safety concerns residents have about State Highway 1Â which runs through the town.
Woodend Community Association president Mark Paterson says there are no crossings outside Woodend School, and kids face an ordeal trying to cross safely.
"There's a big problem with drivers not watching or stopping, I don't think it will be long until there's a serious incident."
Paterson hopes NZTA listen to their feedback and get a move on with making changes.
