A member of a Christchurch Working Men's Club, who was barred for speaking to the media, will find out tonight if he can stay in the club.

Last month, the Hornby Working Men's Club banned Ian Hunter until a judicial hearing tonight for speaking out over the closure of its gym.

The club has ditched the 20 year old gym in favour of an outdoor area and more bars, all part of a multi-million dollar redevelopment.

Hunter, who has been a member for almost 10 years, says he's not sure what will happen.

"Going up in front of their judiciary panel, which is four people, so I'm not quite sure. Obviously, I am banned to that point."

He says he will find out tonight what the case is against him.

"If they strip off the membership, then I've got rights to appeal which I will appeal to the board anyway."

Hornby Working Men's Club's General Manager Paul Inwood says it's a personal matter between the club and Hunter and they will not be sharing additional information with the media.
