The creator of a proposed ultra-marathon course surrounding Christchurch says they are close to securing the funding needed.

The 130 kilometre track surrounds the city, by connecting a number of existing walkways together.

The track's been in development for the last 25 years - with the Christchurch City Council recently committing funds to it.

Its creator Colin Meurk says indicative offers of funding for the remaining $20,000 needed fell through after issues delayed the project until at least March.

"That is what we hope and we certainly have had offers of that order of money from those various responses and we're going back to them now to see what could be firmed up."
