Another out of control burn-off in the South Island, as firefighters continue their battle against the blaze in Porter's Pass.

Fire Crews are responding to a vegetation fire on View Hill, just out of Canterbury's Oxford.

Fire and Emergency spokesman Darryl Ball says it's just one paddock at the moment and should be easy to contain.

Two other burn-offs raged out of control in Queenstown over the weekend, with one needing helicopters to battle the blaze.

Meanwhile, fire crews are still hard at work at Porter's Pass, where the scrub fire has grown to more than 150 hectares.

State Highway 73 is reduced to one lane, between Springfield and Arthur's Pass.

Area Commander Colin Russell says they hope to have the blaze fully contained this afternoon.

"We will declare it contained when we've got a full 10 metre cool area around the entire boundary of the fire."

One helicopter is being used for observation and two with monsoon buckets are on standby in case of flareups.
