Christchurch politicians are getting in behind a call to reconsider repairing the Town Hall.
The previous council voted to save the iconic building at a cost of $127 million dollars.
However with a $1.2 billion funding shortfall, many are asking for the project to be shelved.
Labour MP Clayton Cosgrove says it's time for a fresh discussion on its merit.
"It really an issue of priorities for people and at the end of the day I don't think ratepayers want to be whacked with additional rates and costs because the council hasn't got its budgeting in order," he says.
National's Nicky Wagner agrees circumstances have now changed.
"It is very expensive," she says
"The numbers are quite rubbery. This is a decision they're going to have to make and they're just going to have to work their way through it."
