There could be a new path forward in the battle to stop a Chinese water-bottling company in Christchurch.
Environment Canterbury has granted Cloud Ocean consent to take water from a deeper bore in its existing allocation, which could threaten the city's drinking water.
In a presentation to Christchurch City Council today, Aotearoa Water Action's Peter Richardson suggested they take the fight to the Ministry for the Environment.
He says Council should apply for a special water conservation order because of its importance to the community.
Mayor Lianne Dalziel says they will definitely investigate this new option.
