The Commerce Commission's warning over misleading claims about amber beads has been welcomed as a win for consumers.
Baa Baa Beads received a warning after claiming its Baltic amber products could provide relief from teething and other conditions.
Society for Science Based Healthcare co-founder Mark Hanna said there's no evidence these products have any beneficial therapeutic effects at all.
"If people see health claims made about products that seem too good to be true, they probably are. A good start is to ask for evidence and if the only evidence put forward is anecdotes, then its probably not a trustworthy product."
Hanna said other advertisers have been claiming the same thing.
"As well as dealing Baa Baa beads, this warning message is to those other advertisers as well saying its not on, don't say these things if you don't have evidence to back it up."
