Despite what it says is fierce competition, the country's largest electricity generator has posted a six month after tax profit of $117 million.
Meridian Energy's earnings for the last half of 2014 are 20 percent up on the same period in 2013.
It means the SOE will pay a dividend of 4.8 cents per share.
That's four percent higher than the dividend forecast in its prospectus.
