Air New Zealand is working on getting 9,000 passengers disrupted by the weather to their destinations and offering a goodwill payment.
The $250 is for stranded customers to help with accommodation costs while they await their new flight.
The payment is for passengers who were due to travel internationally between last Friday and Sunday.
Air New Zealand's Leanne Geraghty says the airline is temporarily refocusing staff in its international contact centre to rebook customers until the backlog is cleared.
An extra flight has been scheduled to bring around three-hundred passengers home from Los Angeles.
