A young trio was attacked - one left unconscious and taken to hospital - on a suburban Auckland street after construction workers allegedly hurled abuse and threw bottles at them.
Police are investigating the incident that happened as a 17-year-old boy, 18-year-old woman and a man in his 20s were allegedly targeted while walking down Beach Haven Rd on Friday.
A local woman and mother of the youngest teen, who wishes for her and her family to stay anonymous, told the Herald her nephew was knocked unconscious by a group of trade contractors.
She claimed he suffered a small fracture in his nose and jaw and was just getting his memory back days after the violent incident.

Police confirmed they have made inquiries into the altercation.
“Police have now spoken with both parties involved about what has taken place.
“We will now be reviewing all available information to determine any appropriate steps in this matter.”
Hato Hone St John was notified of the incident at Beach Haven Rd and Hellyers St at 2.44pm.
One person was taken to North Shore Hospital in a moderate condition.
The alleged victims and multiple witnesses said the workers involved drove trucks branded with TZL, a North Shore-based scaffolding company.
TZL owner Thomas Williams told the Herald those involved were not employees of TZL Scaffolding, and were independent contractors hired by him to do a job on the day of the incident.
“I’m shocked at the false accusations. There are definitely two sides to this story.
“I won’t comment on anything as I have sent the workers involved to the police and I will let them handle it.”
Williams also said he had received threats and harassment from the family involved and other ‘random’ people.
The boy’s mother told the Herald a police officer at the scene rang her last night and said there was a “high chance” the workers wouldn’t get charged as “they’ve given multiple statements claiming it was a mutual fight”.
“If this is the case, I am beyond disgusted in our law, or lack of it.”
The young trio had walked down the road when they claimed a group of three men in a scaffolding truck whistled and yelled “something sleazy” at the woman’s 18-year-old niece.
“Which made my son and nephew yell at the truck to ‘get f****d’.
“The men were drinking Corona and started throwing their beer bottles at the boys.”
She said the workers then turned around and left before returning five minutes later with another truckload of six men.
“They stole my son’s gold chain that fell off his neck and [punched and] split under his eye.
“They knocked my nephew unconscious, and he has a small fracture in his nose and jaw and is only just starting to get his memory back.”
A member of the public who stopped to help the injured said they rang an ambulance because one of the boys was “out cold”.
The victim’s aunt said the alleged offenders were not known to the family and it was ”100% a random attack”.
