Partial victory for set-net fishing opponents

Opponents of set-net fishing at Auckland's northern beaches have achieved a partial victory.

Auckland Council will ban set-nets in Army Bay and Te Haruhi Bay this summer.

But they'll be allowed at Omaha, Hatfields Beach and Browns Bay.

Hatfields Beach resident Neil Henson says the beach can be full of nets from dawn to dusk.

"That's a safety and nuisance issue for those recreational fishing boats, paddle boarders, height surfers, swimmers and paddlers."

Mr Henson says most local board members and residents have been asking the council for bans.
