A motorcyclist has died after a serious crash with a car during rush hour on Mt Eden Rd in Auckland this morning.

Police say the accident happened near the intersection with Mt Albert Rd at Three Kings.

A police spokesperson said emergency services responded to the crash shortly after 7am where the motorcyclist had sustained critical injuries.

 “Sadly, the driver of the motorbike died in hospital,” police said.

The incident will be referred to the Coroner.

A number of buses were forced to detour around the crash scene, Auckland Transport said.

They would take a different route for part of the journey until further notice.
