An increase in Aucklanders commuting on motorcycles and scooters has led to the creation of more parking spaces for such modes of transport.
Auckland Transport has developed a dedicated entry lane and 112 parks for scooters and motorbikes in its Downtown carpark.
Special spaces have been allocated in The Civic carpark, and more are on the way for Victoria Street.
Parking Services manager Russell Derecourt says commuter travel is forever changing, and there's been a significant increase in people using these modes of transport.
"We've cert seen it with public transport patronage increasing, but we're definitely noticing an uptake in motorcyclists and scooters."
Derecourt says previously motorcyclists and scooter riders have parked wherever they could.
"So it put both their bikes and other peoples' motor vehicles in jeopardy, you know.
"They try and wedge into spaces that weren't reserved or cordoned off for them."
Derecourt, a motorcyclist himself, says while you have to be cautious, they're an effective way of getting around the city.
