A man has died after being pulled from the water at a popular Auckland beach.
Police said they received reports about 3.15pm that a man had been pulled out of the water unresponsive at Cheltenham Beach on the North Shore.
Emergency services applied CPR but the man could not be revived.
The area has been cordoned off as police make inquiries on behalf of the coroner.
Hato Hone St John confirmed an ambulance and three rapid response units attended.
A witness told RNZ she heard emergency vehicles “screaming down Lake Rd” this afternoon.
She saw emergency services applying CPR, but said they soon stopped and a sheet was placed over the man.
