
One of the cars car involved in a deadly crash on a suburban Auckland road looked to be speeding at 100km/h mere moments before impact, a witness says.
One person died in Great South Rd collision between two cars in Ĺtahuhu, while four others were injured - including three critically.
A woman driving in the other lane said she saw one of the cars speeding in the opposite direction at about 7.40pm last night.
It âliterally looked 100km/hâ, she told the Herald about the carâs speed.
âAnd then I just heard a loud bang, but I didnât see how it crashed,â she said.
Emergency services arrived shortly afterwards, with police saying one person died at the scene
Three people also suffered critical injuries, while a fourth had moderate injuries.
All four were taken to hospital.
Inquiries into the circumstances of the crash were ongoing, police said.

Second Auckland crash an hour later
Soon after the fatal Ĺtahuhu crash, emergency teams were also called out to another serious two-vehicle collision in west Aucklandâs Oratia.
The crash, near the intersection of West Coast Rd and Kairi Loop Rd, was reported to police around 8.45pm yesterday.
One person is in a critical condition and two people have serious injuries.
âThe road will be closed for several hours while emergency services work at the scene,â police said late last night.
