A former charitable trust boss has been charged with misappropriating more than $2 million and using a forged document to maintain his VIP membership status at SkyCity Casino.

Matekino Marshall, former chief executive of Ngāti Tamaoho Trust and former chairman of the Port Waikato Community Health and Support Services Trust, pleaded not guilty to the charges today and has been remanded on bail.

The Serious Fraud Office alleges that Marshall misappropriated the funds from the two trusts.

This allegedly included $547,408 while heading the Ngāti Tamaoho Trust.

Then, while chairing the Port Waikato Community Health and Support Services Trust, he allegedly accessed a computer system and misappropriated $1,454,895.

It is also alleged that he has repaid $120,000 that he misappropriated from another, unidentified, entity.

He is further accused of using a forged document to maintain his VIP Black Card membership status at SkyCity Casino.

Marshall appeared in the Manukau District Court today and pleaded not guilty to the charges.

He was remanded on bail to appear at his trial, which is set to begin on July 26 next year.

The trial is expected to last for six weeks.
