Auckland's Lightpath cycleway is proving popular, particularly during holidays and long weekends.

More than 100,000 cycle journeys have been made on the pedestrian and cycle link between Canada Street and Nelson Street since it opened in December.

Auckland Transport cycling and walking manager Kathryn King says the Lightpath and Nelson Street cycleway is well-used by daily commuters.

But she says it is even more popular when people aren't working, with an average of 1000 journeys made on the path each day during Easter Weekend.
