A watchful eye in the form of a new CCTV system is being considered, in an attempt to curb crime in a south Auckland community.
A proposal's on the table for a $40,000 surveillance system for Mangere East.
Mangere-Otahuhu Local Board chair Lydia Sosene says there are issues of community safety which need to be tackled.
"The Mangere East community has been very vocal for the local board and this is part of the initiative to keep the community safe and this local board is pretty supportive of this initiative."
Lydia Sosene says a CCTV system would be a tool to help prevent anti-social behaviour in the town centre.
The annual operating cost for the system would be between seven and $10,000.
