Emergency services are responding to a vehicle fire on Auckland’s busy waterfront this evening.

Fire and Emergency said they received reports of a car fire on Quay St near the intersection with Lower Albert St, near the Waitematā Train Station, about 6.20pm.

One crew from Parnell attended and found the fire “showing well” on arrival.

Firefighters remain at the scene, while police assist with traffic management.

Images sent to the Herald show clouds of thick black smoke billowing toward Te Komititanga Square, in front of the busy transport hub.

Police said there were no reports of a police-directed evacuation.

Hato Hone St John sent one rapid response unit about 6.22pm, but the crew was stood down as there were no patients.
