Around 100 people have rallied in the fight for freedom of speech at Aotea Square in Auckland.
Marches have also been held in Wellington and Christchurch in response to two controversial far-right speakers being banned from using council venues.
Earlier this week, Auckland Mayor Phil Goff banned two Canadian speakers from appearing at the Bruce Mason Centre next month.
But ACT Party spokesperson Stephen Berry says the pair's views might be controversial but they don't incite hatred or violence and therefore should be able to use a public venue.
"Because it's a public venue we view that as an attack on freedom of speech. They have let the Labour Party use them, they've let the Internet Party use them, why can't these Canadian speakers use them? "
