The Chamber of Commerce says the council needs to tell Aucklanders what the regional fuel tax revenue will be spent on.
Phil Goff confirmed it's the 11.5 cent a litre fuel tax will likely come in to place next year.
Chamber chief executive Michael Barnett says Auckland Council doesn't have the greatest record on tight spending.
He said Aucklanders need to know the income's not just going into a slush fund.
"I think all we're looking for is a business case that give us the assurance that what's taken in the name of transport, is spent in the name of transport"
Barnett said most Aucklanders accept the fuel tax - as long as it's going to make transport better.
"I think that most of them, to get some confidence out of this, are going to say we need to be paying something but we want the assurance that it's going to be spent well".
