One person is injured after a truck blew a tyre along Auckland’s Northwestern Motorway, causing massive delays in both directions.

The crash, which earlier blocked two westbound lanes, occurred on the State Highway 16 causeway between Waterview and Te Atatū this morning, NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi (NZTA) said.

Police said a truck had blown a tyre along the causeway, triggering “massive delays” on the arterial route.

Hato Hone St John said it was alerted to the crash at 10.35am and responded to the call with one ambulance.

Paramedics assessed a patient at the scene, who was transported to Auckland City Hospital in a moderate condition.

One westbound lane was reopened around 11.45am, NZTA said, with the final lane freed up by 12.30pm.

Traffic cameras showed heavy congestion for westbound vehicles, with traffic heading into the city also slowing to a crawl.

“All lanes are now open. Allow extra time for congestion in the area to ease,” NZTA said.

Westbound traffic was stalled from the Waterview Connection interchange for several hours, while eastbound traffic slowed significantly around the Patiki Rd and Rosebank Rd turn-offs.

Google Traffic data showed vehicle movement being restricted in both directions, although it has since softened
