Auckland library lovers are being urged to speak up if they want their libraries to stay open on the weekend.

The cash-strapped council is set to slash library budgets.

Councillor George Wood says that could mean reductions to opening hours and days of many suburban libraries.

"The local boards are working the issues through, and people should submit to the long term plan."

Some libraries open on Sunday at the moment, while others don't.
