An Auckland house fire is sending large plumes of smoke into the air forcing a nearby school to start later this morning.
Photos from the scene show a villa ablaze on the corner of Symonds and Trafalgar Sts in Ōnehunga, with brown smoke billowing from the roof.
Fire and Emergency crews at the scene appear to be managing traffic with roads closed while efforts are made to put out the blaze.
Shift manager Blair Walklin, said crews received reports of the fire just before 7.20am.
Walkin said 12 fire trucks are in attendance from across the city.
Crews are currently working to extinguish and contain the third alarm-level fire.
The blaze will affect Royal Oak Intermediate School’s opening because of road closures in the area, he said.
The fire is near Royal Oak Intermediate School.
The school is opposite the fire.
An incident report shows crews from the Onehunga, Ellerslie, Mount Roskill, Balmoral, Auckland City and Otara stations attending.
