Auckland's newest dedicated cycling route could be a sign of things to come for city cyclists.
Hundreds of people have been using new dedicated cycle routes through Grafton Valley and Beach Road, which opened earlier this month.
Barbara Cuthbert from Cycling Action Auckland says it's a model for other projects in the pipeline.
"It's a fabulous way to get people safely directly into the city. It gives a clear indication of how cycling can be in Auckland.'
Cuthbert says it's just what the city's cyclists have been asking for.
"For most people in Auckland, a painted line on the road doesn't give them the sort of security they want. They want better separation from the traffic."
Barbara Cuthbert says several similar cycleway projects are also in the pipeline.
One proposed project is a cycleway between Tamaki Drive to Glen Innes.
