Christmas is meant to be a relaxing time of year, but for many, the stress can prove too much.

Divorce rates commonly rise in the New Year, often seen as a result of couples spending more time together during the Christmas break and uncovering cracks in their relationship over that time.

It's a sight that is quite common for divorce lawyer Jeremy Sutton.

He told Tim Beveridge that in the New Year he sees a mix of people who are just beginning to explore their options, and those who have decided they are fed up and want out.

Sutton says that women tend to be more prepared and ask more questions, while men generally want to exit more quickly and don't usually have the same emotions. 

He and Tim fielded calls from listeners and answered their queries about divorce and how to handle this sensitive time of year.
