Standing in Another Man's Grave by Ian Rankin
Five years after Ian Rankin retired his iconic, anachronistic detective, Rebus is back, working as a civilian in a cold case unit.
He’s approached by the mother of a young woman who’s been missing since the Millennium Eve and she believes her daughter was just the first victim of a serial killer.
She begs Rebus to help her find her daughter and the killer but Rebus is up against it.
The new police force has no time for Rebus’ old school detecting and he has Internal Affairs on his back who see danger in his odd relationship with mob boss Big Ger Rafferty.
Rebus is a terrific character and the plot as always is strong but the ending lacked the punch I was hoping for.
Still loved it though.
