There were a couple of issues over the past 24 hours that sent the blood temperature into the off the scale.
One was the bleeding hearts in Labour, their jockeys The Greens, their hopefuls New Zealand First and the blind dates in the Maori Party. They're telling us one night stands are okay, no-one has to take responsibility for unprotected sex and the offspring that can result from it.
Back in 1990 the hard hearted Palmer Labour Government said if a mother won't say who the father is they they'll get their benefit cheque docked, initially by $22 a week, or if they're still refusing to dob him in after three months, then $28 will come off their benefit. Labour today says it's not the same party as it was way back then which is hardly a reason for self congratulations.
There are a staggering 17,000 who're refusing to say, or can't remember, who their kids' dads are. One 21-year-old mum says Winz wanted a name but she couldn't give them one because she wasn't with anyone at the time.
Whoever said there was no such thing as a virgin birth?
The bleeding hearts are now wanting to change the law to stop the benefit docking which will have seventeen thousand fathers laughing all the way to their next one night stand.
Okay there will be a number of reasons why women would legitimately want to keep the dad's name to herself, like incest, living in fear of a rapist or someone's who's threatening violence. But to have a blanket removal of the penalty means the father can leave the State to pick up the tab for his selfishness.
And the other blood boiling moment was the ongoing arrogance of the Ocker's Immigration Minister Peter Dutton saying not a single refugee on Nauru will set foot in Australia but has left the door open to this country to take those they don't want. And it's our fault for offering three years ago to help out by being willing to take 150 if we're asked to.
The way Aussies treat Kiwis in their country and the offloading of their problem Kiwis, deporting them even if they have spent most of their lives there, is surely reason enough for the refugee offer to be withdrawn.
And Dutton seems to miss the point, if we do take them from Nauru, then it'll open the door to Australia anyway.
That's probably why they've never taken us up on the offer, although once they get here why would they want to go to Australia?
