Flag

The man behind the All Blacks Silver Fern says the design of a possible new New Zealand flag needs to be taken more seriously.

Dave Clark designed the trademarked silver fern logo in 1986 and is offering to redesign the ferns featured on three of the four short listed flag submissions.

He says the three short listed flags in question have merit but need to be tweaked to look more like a real silver fern.

Yes the ferns look a bit tacky.

Designers like Clark should have been involved from the get go - there needed to be expert design panel - but that didn't happen and its too late now.

Clarks offer should be taken up but it won't be - it is what it is - and the current flag has more of a chance of surviving because of it.

Petricevic

The Sensible Sentencing Trust is trying to keep a fraudster behind bars to serve out the rest of his sentence.

The trust is filing proceedings in the High Court to overturn the Parole Board's decision to release Rod Petricevic after serving only half of his sentence.

Sensible Sentencing Trust founder Garth McVicor says his release is indicative of how the Parole Board treats white collar criminals, which should be alarming to the public.

He says Petricevic ruined peoples lives.

Petricevic and his mates at Bridgecorp fleeced investors of $467 million. He was declared bankrupt and that was very convenient. I understand there is considerable wealth in a family trust. By wealth I mean millions.

So while many investors have had their lives ruined Petricevic gets to serve less than half of his six and a half year sentence.

He has somehow conned the Parole Board (which doesn't seem to be difficult) that instead of showing no remorse and maintaining a degree of entitlement over the way he acted....he now regrets it all, is very sorry, and is chastened. He can now head to the golf club and carry on as if nothing happened, and of course, live his life of luxury that he plundered from poor mum and dad investors.

It's just plain wrong.

First, white collar criminals like Petricevic should be locked away for more than six and a half years, second, the trusts, all the cash ferreted away should be seized, I don't care if it's in a family trust.

Forget all this psycho babble put forward by the "shrinks" as good reason for white collar criminals to be set free - they don't care. The Petricevics on this world don't care - the only thing they care about is that they got caught in the first place.
