On February 22, 2011, a deadly earthquake hit the Canterbury region. The effects are still being felt today.

Newstalk ZB journalists investigated some of the issues that have yet to be resolved, and some that have been exacerbated by the disaster, in a series of in-depth audio documentaries.

Jessica McCarthy: CERA - Success or Setbacks?

It's two months until the Canterbury Earthquake Recovery Authority winds up, and splits into two separate entities – Regenerate Christchurch, which will be a joint organisation with the City Council, and Otakaro Limited, which will manage crown-backed anchor projects, and assets.

Jessica McCarthy investigated the successes and failures of the organisation tasked with rebuilding Canterbury.

Charlotte Lewis-West: Huge pressure on charities after CHCH quakes

Five years of devastating earthquakes have left many people struggling with a myriad of issues.. poverty, homelessness, injury, depression, abuse and addiction are just a few challenges on constant rotation for Canterbury residents.

Charlotte Lewis-West visited a number of charities around Christchurch to see how they were weighing negatives against the positives.

Charlie Greenhalgh: How is the Earthquake generation coping?

It's been five years since the February 2011 earthquake, but the memory is still raw for many young Cantabrians. As the city rebuilds, the region's young people are still feeling the effects of the quake half a decade on.

Charlie Greenhalgh has caught up with the earthquake generation, as well as those who work closely with them, to see how they're coping five years on.

Emily Murphy: Addiction rampant in post-quake CHCH

In 2015, the City Mission provided support to close to 1,500 residents battling addiction, which is almost double the amount it took on in the year prior to the earthquakes.

Emily Murphy visited a number of addiction services across Christchurch, where she found that five years on, the numbers of people struggling are the highest they’ve ever been.

These documentaries premiered on Canterbury Mornings with Chris Lynch.
