The former head of news at MediaWorks has spoken out in support of selling TVNZ.
The Opportunities Party leader Gareth Morgan suggested the sale of the state network at a media conference earlier today.
Mark Jennings told Larry Williams TVNZ is well overdue to be sold, and it needs to be done while it's still worth something.
"It would be good to take that money. Probably if they sold it now somewhere $120 million and $150 million and that could go into a public interest journalism find."
Mr Jennings said there is potential for a state broadcaster in New Zealand, but it shouldn't be TVNZ.
"I mean if you look at Australia, they combine radio, television and digital into the ABC. I think it could be done here. Possibly Radio New Zealand would play a role in that."
