Fancy yourself as a spy?

The Government's spy agency is on the hunt for fresh blood.

The GCSB hopes to recruit a range of candidates in different roles, with a focus on employing more women.

Director-General Andrew Hampton told Kate Hawkesby the GCSB got an increase in funding in 2016 so it needs to grow by more than 50 percent over the next four years.

"We are after people to help with our two missions, which is keeping New Zealand's information and key organisations safe from cyber attack, and of course the gathering intelligence role."

They are focusing on making the workplace more diverse.

Hampton says a lot of people who've studied maths, science and technology apply for jobs but they're not always the most diverse crew.

He says the agency has a lot of young males and Pakeha coming through.

"And that's great, but it's been my own experience and there's also plenty of research to support it, that you are going to get better decisions, you are going to get more innovations, if you have people with different backgrounds and different perspectives."

The GCSB is offering tertiary scholarships to women.
