A solution to a parking feud near Wellington's airport will be used for other residents in the city who are battling for parks.

Miramar residents have become increasingly frustrated over the last month with holiday makers parking their cars on the streets to avoid airport parking costs.

Wellington City Council transport leader Chris Calvi-Freeman said residents in Newtown, Johnsonville and Tawa are fighting commuters for parks.

"People who live in these areas see the streets outside their houses as somewhere they'd like to have first dibs on for parking. Whereas the law actually makes no stipulations on that, and anybody can park on any street."

Councillor Calvi-Freeman said he plans to implement more parking restrictions this year to change that .

"If we can work to some really good solutions there, that the majority of people are happy with, then we'll have a system that we should be able to roll out to some of the other pressure points."
