Council doing all it can after pedestrian death

The Wellington City Council is confident it's already doing all it can to help improve pedestrian safety on a major bus route through the city.

A coroners report released today details how well-known runner Venessa Green was killed when she was hit by a trolley-bus in Willis Street in 2011.

Coroner Garry Evans has recommended the council carry out an additional audit this year, to ensure the safety of pedestrians, motorists and cyclists.

Spokesperson Richard Maclean says the council is already in the early stages of carrying out another audit and has a constant focus on golden mile safety.

"We have staff out in the CBD and we also obviously talked to New Zealand bus and to the New Zealand police."
