Residents of Marlborough's Waihopai Valley are being asked to prepare for immediate evacuation due to a major fire.
Crews are battling a blaze over 12-hundred hectares of pine forest and farm grassland since Thursday.
NZME's Scott Radovanovich said if the direction of the wind changes, they may have to evacuate their homes straight away.
"It's dry, there's increasingly windy conditions at the moment. Â Residents are advised to be extremely cautious." Â
Road closures are in place and people are being asked to stay away.
