UPDATED 6.25PM: Protesters were out in force to show their displeasure towards the controversial Trans-Pacific Partnership Agreement.

They claim the free trade deal, which is shrouded in secrecy, is a threat to New Zealand sovereignty, at odds with democracy, and a "corporate power grab".

Supporters of the TPPA believe the deal would deepen economic ties and open up trade, boost investment flows, and promote closer economic and regulatory co-operation.

Over 20 rallies took place across the country.

Over 1000 people marched through central Auckland demanding the Government release the full text of the deal.

In Christchurch, protesters blocked traffic on Riccarton Road.

Christchurch event organiser Gen de Spa says it's an effort to stop the Government in its tracks.

Earlier today, the Green Party called on the Government to release its cost benefit analysis of the TPPA.

Trade spokesman James Shaw said if it is such a good deal for New Zealand, the Government should have nothing to hide.

He says we know through leaks that the TPPA is a Bill of Rights for multi- national corporations.

"We're assuming that the government's negotiating this because there are also some benefits.

"But so far because of leaks, we only know about what the risks are and we don't know what the benefits are, so we're calling on them to release that analysis."
