A road safety commentator says it's about time we found out about politicians' speeding.

Last October the Department of Internal Affairs declined to release details about speeding infringements incurred by Ministers in their limousines and self-drive cars.

Now Chief Ombudsman Peter Boshier has decided he will investigate and review the Department's decisions, following an appeal by Newstalk ZB political staff.

He thinks the investigation will find there has been consistent breaking of the speed rules, by the very people we are trusting to set us an example.
